Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski is on a mission to dismantle the Clean Air Act. She’s welcomed industry lobbyists who represent major coal-burning utilities to help her draft a plan that would tie the hands of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA has announced it plans to use the Clean Air Act to reduce global warming pollution from the largest sources. Senator Murkowski is making every attempt to stop them by undermining one of our nation’s strongest environmental laws.
Tomorrow morning, we expect Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski — a politician who has accepted more than a million dollars from polluters1 — to introduce an outrageous amendment that would make EPA powerless to enforce the Clean Air Act and protect wildlife and natural resources from the impacts of climate change. Her efforts would weaken a law that has protected people and wildlife for 40 years.
Our senators must know that we will not stand for Murkowski’s attack on the Clean Air Act. We need to tell them to oppose her amendment and preserve one of our nation’s oldest and most successful environmental laws: http://action.earthjustice.org/campaign/cleanair_0110/i8ukixb4r7jx7i78?#startform.
Since it’s coming out tomorrow, phone calls might be more effective. Though I don’t know where all of you might be, here are all the numbers: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm. It’s easy, and the people who you call are always really nice… because you’re calling as a constituent.
